GENERAL QUESTIONS

Flooring transitions are used anytime two different floors come together. This can be to bridge the gap, if the two floors are of different thicknesses or to create a smooth boundary when floors of different materials meet each other. For example, carpet to tile transitions or laminate to wood.

Crown molding and baseboards should be nailed into the studs, never on the flooring as it would prevent it from expand.

Before you begin, make sure to leave a 3/8" inch gap between the flooring and the rail. This space is especially important since the flooring must be able to expand and contract throughout the seasons.

One of the most common questions you'll see below, is if you have a hallway off the main open space, should your flooring change direction to run the LENGTH of the hallway. The answer is almost always no. It is usually better for all the flooring to run the same direction in a home.

An overlapping stair nose creates a transition to the edge of your step where the flooring meets the transition by overlapping the flooring on the back end instead of being flush.
